This project encompasses the use and evaluation of DataCamp and “swirl()”, two tools that can be used to learn the data analytic programming language R. DataCamp is an online interface that takes the user through a variety of exercises to practice various functions and familiarize the user with the different commands and arguments within R. Rather than an online platform, “swirl()” is a package which can be downloaded directly into the R software and can be used within RStudio; similarly it uses and exercise based system to teach the user how to use R. The purpose of evaluating these respective tools is to share the benefits and shortcomings of each with colleagues so that they can also begin to learn how to use R. Within the lab setting, R will be used to analyze and visualize large sets of data from eddy covariance towers, water flow drainage collection, and weather stations to aid in research of bioenergy crop production.
