Large-volume applications of nitrogen (N) during maize production can be economically and ecologically costly. Using a set of recombinant inbred lines (RILs) whose parents exhibit contrasting plasticity responses to low N conditions in root growth angle, we are working to identify relationships between root phenotypes and yield traits.
